No idea how/if they'll fix the duping issue, but this event could still be cool. If gems hadn't been duplicated, it'd have been fucking amazing. There seems to be this misplaced sense of "I should have the same odds as anyone else who's in the ecosystem, even though I've been selling off the things which put me in this ecosystem for cash, so basically I want to double dip." They weighted it so people who have been in the ecosystem have better odds, but that anyone can participate, and if people choose not to participate because they think the odds are too long, they still benefit, because they've been selling items and the value of those items is only going to go up. At the onset of this system, throw a massive giveaway in order to help clear out the glut of items on the marketplace, so value of items will float more appropriately.Implement a system by which emoticons and backgrounds which aren't desired can be recycled back into the card marketplace via booster pack crafting.Congrats, you've already been enjoying the system! This was an event to do three things:

Well, they'll start selling now, or you've got a ton of items you can make into gems for entries, or hell, if you don't think you'll win, you can make booster packs for that game you're trying to get a badge for, or maybe sell it on the market for a profit.īut there seems to be a lot of moaning about how terrible this thing is because people wouldn't be able to compete because they've been selling their stuff to get FREE MONEY all along. If you've been crafting them, you've got a glut of backgrounds/emoticons that weren't selling. How does it benefit you? The price for cards is going to go up and you're going to get more money. If you've been selling them, then yes you'll be at a disadvantage in this because you've already been getting free money to get games with all this time. Which brings us to two main points.ġ) People with more games will have more cards

But the point was that you weren't supposed to be getting rid of the cards that way, you were supposed to sell them, which a lot of you have been all along. So how do you get gems to enter the games? Oh, by getting rid of all those backgrounds/emoticons that people don't really want to use. You guys were just blinded by the inflated prices from duplication and the fact that you wouldn't be able to compete for the ooh shiny AAA game which had just come out. Some games that there were 100 copies of that you might not have noticed? Sokobond. (I was doing single gem bids to keep track of ones on my wishlist). And a lot of them weren't being bidded on for very much! Everyone was focusing on the (inflated because of the duplication bug) bids on things like Borderlands and going "whelp, fuck me." I had bids of a single gem on dozens of games and many of them only had 40 bids TOTAL, even right before it was taken down. The only flaw in this whole thing is the item duplication bug. The problem isn't that people with more items have better odds - that's part of the system. It had the potential to be the greatest special event Valve has done. His favorite film directors are Wes Craven and Pedro Almodóvar and his top ten favorite movies include Mad Max: Fury Road, Little Shop of Horrors, and Romy and Michele's High School Reunion. This contest was a brilliant idea, on multiple levels.
